Solving Linear Equations

What is a Linear Equation?

A linear equation is an equation where the highest power of the variable is 1. It has the form:

ax + b = 0

Where a and b are constants, and x is the variable.

Steps to Solve a Linear Equation:

1. Move all terms with the variable to one side

First, isolate the terms with x on one side of the equation.

2. Move constant terms to the other side

Next, move the constant term to the opposite side by subtracting it from both sides.

3. Solve for x

Finally, divide both sides by the coefficient of x to find the value of the variable.

Example:

Example 1: Solve 2x + 3 = 7

            Step 1: Move the constant term to the right side.
            2x = 7 - 3
            2x = 4

            Step 2: Divide both sides by the coefficient of x (2).
            x = 4 / 2
            x = 2
