Solving Quadratic Equations

What is a Quadratic Equation?

A quadratic equation is an equation of degree 2, which means the highest power of the variable is 2. It has the form:

ax² + bx + c = 0

Where a, b, and c are constants, and x is the variable.

Methods to Solve a Quadratic Equation:

1. Factoring

Factor the quadratic equation into two binomials.

2. Using the Quadratic Formula

Use the quadratic formula: x = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac)) / 2a

3. Completing the Square

Rearrange the quadratic equation to form a perfect square trinomial.

Example:

Example 1: Solve x² - 5x + 6 = 0

Step 1: Factor the quadratic equation.
            (x - 2)(x - 3) = 0

Step 2: Set each factor equal to 0.
            x - 2 = 0 → x = 2
            x - 3 = 0 → x = 3
